01 · The presenting picture
AJ reacted to some dogs and people, became vocal in stimulating environments and had limited reliable freedom away from the lead. He was more comfortable with some calm dogs than with others.
He already received substantial exercise and enrichment. The question was how to balance that activity with rest, clearer communication and the ability to settle independently.
02 · What the audit identified
The audit considered prey interest, environmental awareness and handler dependence together. His ability to work around suitable dogs provided a starting point, but did not establish neutrality in busier or less predictable situations.
03 · The Canine UK strategy
- Build consistent recall, walking and release cues across handlers.
- Provide structured outlets for scent and working drive, with time to recover afterwards.
- Practise calm observation at a manageable distance and reward settling away from constant contact.
04 · Recommended pathway
- The recommended route combined foundation work with professionally guided recall training. Residential work was discussed as an alternative.
- The sources do not establish which programme was selected, whether it began or what later progress AJ made.
05 · Owner transfer and maintenance
Owner work centred on consistent daily practice, realistic management around wildlife and dogs, and recording how readily AJ could disengage and settle.
