ProfileRottweiler · reactivity, impulse control and owner transfer
01 · The presenting picture
Bozo's residential pathway targeted fixation, lunging and barking alongside lead manners, recall, obedience and impulse control around everyday distractions.
The aim was not simply to tire him out or produce a short training demonstration. He needed a structure that could be carried back into family life and maintained after handover.
02 · What the audit identified
Bozo responded to clear direction, structured play, predictable rest and work that combined physical movement with mental engagement.
His handover also made an important distinction: improved tolerance around neutral dogs did not mean he should be pushed into uncontrolled greetings or expected to want dog friends.
03 · The Canine UK strategy
- Develop loose-lead walking, close-position work, recall and core obedience.
- Reduce rehearsal of fixation, lunging and barking through earlier handler intervention.
- Build impulse control through controlled work around dogs, people, children and livestock.
- Use multiple handlers and varied environments so responses did not depend on one person or place.
- Create a clear home routine around rest, structured play, resources and daily maintenance training.
04 · Rehabilitation outcome
- Bozo's completed handover recorded improved lead manners, reduced reactivity, reliable recall work and a clearer understanding of obedience.
- He had been trained by different handlers and across indoor and outdoor environments, with stamina and impulse control developed progressively.
- He returned home with a detailed maintenance plan designed to protect the progress rather than assume the work was permanently finished.
05 · Owner transfer and maintenance
The owner plan centred on calm command delivery, early interruption of fixation, daily practice, appropriate rest and continuing to advocate for Bozo around unfamiliar dogs.
