01 · The presenting picture

The presenting concerns included reactions to approaching people, difficulty with household movement and strong dependence on the owner. Safe handling and predictable boundaries were immediate priorities.

During assessment, Chunk struggled against lead guidance and showed intermittent weakness in a rear leg. Those observations mattered when deciding what activity and training were appropriate.

02 · What the audit identified

Later in the session, Chunk passed four people without barking and interacted respectfully with selected dogs. These were encouraging, limited observations. They did not establish general safety or remove the need to investigate movement concerns.

03 · The Canine UK strategy

  • Prioritise secure adult handling and managed access around visitors and children.
  • Support comfortable rest and gradual independence within a predictable routine.
  • Teach clear cues and owner timing at a level Chunk could manage.
  • Base further training on physical comfort and repeatable responses.

04 · Recommended pathway

  • The proposed pathway combined welfare review, household foundations and professionally coached recall and control work.
  • The source is an assessment and owner training plan. It does not establish a completed course or rehabilitation outcome.

05 · Owner transfer and maintenance

Owners would record movement, trigger distance, recovery and the help needed during handling. Progress needed to transfer to their everyday routines while management remained in place.
