01 · The presenting picture

The history included guarding, agitation during confinement, barking at visitors and a reported nip. Rapid escalation and difficulty recovering made ordinary household situations challenging.

Physical discomfort and breathing or movement concerns were also described. These concerns formed part of the assessment picture without establishing a confirmed cause for the behaviour.

02 · What the audit identified

Warning signs included stiffening, freezing and hard staring. Walking improved during a controlled assessment trial, but that limited response did not demonstrate safety in the home or resolve the wider risk.

03 · The Canine UK strategy

  • Prevent avoidable exposure to situations associated with conflict.
  • Maintain clear separation and capable adult supervision where needed.
  • Consider welfare and the household's ability to sustain management together.
  • Build any training around realistic expectations and continued risk reduction.

04 · Recommended pathway

  • The report discussed possible support routes while emphasising that long term management would remain necessary.
  • This case records a risk assessment and proposed support. Later training decisions and behavioural outcomes are not confirmed.

05 · Owner transfer and maintenance

Owner responsibilities included recognising warning behaviour, maintaining consistent environmental control and being honest about what could be sustained every day. Progress would not justify relaxing safeguards without review.

Privacy and professional context

Real work, shared responsibly.

Owner names, addresses, contact information and identifying household details have been removed. Health observations are not veterinary diagnoses and are included only where they materially affected the training decision.
