01 · The presenting picture

The assessment recorded more than seven reported bites across different situations. The exact total, overlap between reports and injury detail still needed reconciliation.

It also described conflict over space, easy escalation, a strong response to another dog near a vehicle and a previous confinement escape that caused injury.

02 · What the audit identified

The working assessment considered how aggression had ended unwanted interactions, while keeping motive and missing incident details uncertain. Maggie was vet checked and reported all clear.

Secure containment and comfortable rest needed to be assessed together; preventing escape alone would not demonstrate that she was coping.

03 · The Canine UK strategy

  • Prevent further bite opportunities through planned separation and safe routes.
  • Develop a secure interim resting arrangement and staged confinement training.
  • Teach movement, disengagement and handling foundations before adding difficulty.
  • Transfer the plan to responsible adults and review real behaviour before reducing management.

04 · Current stage

  • James confirms that Maggie is in active rehabilitation.
  • The reviewed material sets out the assessment and management pathway. It does not establish completed rehabilitation, a safe unrestricted home transition or specific current gains.

05 · Owner transfer and maintenance

Owner transfer needs practical competence in barriers, equipment, early warning signs, safe transitions and recovery, with near misses recorded alongside incidents.
