01 · The presenting picture

The report described lead grabbing, pulling and redirection towards the handler, alongside interest in chasing moving vehicles and animals. High excitement could make ordinary walking difficult.

At home, close dependence on people, mouthing and limited independent settling added further demands on the owners.

02 · What the audit identified

The audit considered arousal, access to activity, household responses and physical welfare together. A handling trial during assessment informed the proposed plan, but did not establish reliable control across everyday situations.

03 · The Canine UK strategy

  • Develop shared cues and consistent adult handling.
  • Practise calm walking and disengagement in manageable settings.
  • Prevent rehearsal of chasing and retain physical backup for control.
  • Build predictable rest, suitable activity and gradual independent settling.

04 · Recommended pathway

  • Professional recall and control training was recommended, with residential support discussed as an alternative.
  • The sources do not confirm that either route was selected, began or produced a completed outcome.

05 · Owner transfer and maintenance

Owner work focused on recognising escalation early and maintaining the same expectations during walks and at home. Responsibility for safe handling remained with capable adults, with progress reviewed before freedom increased.
