ProfileMastiff cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Strong pulling and practical handling.
01 · The presenting picture
The history described pulling, lunging towards dogs, jumping and unreliable recall. Nellie was reported to be comfortable with people and generally friendly towards dogs, but unsure how to play.
Chasing and destructive behaviour were also part of the reported picture, alongside a need for more useful engagement during ordinary activity.
02 · What the audit identified
The walking assessment recorded significant strength, pulling and lunging. Friendly intentions alone did not make those responses easy to manage. The practical priority was a foundation programme that could improve communication and give the owner a repeatable handling approach.
03 · The Canine UK strategy
- Develop engagement and clear lead communication.
- Practise basic cues and recall in manageable settings.
- Introduce controlled social and environmental distractions.
- Transfer the foundation skills into owner handling.
04 · Recommended pathway
- The report proposed an initial trainer led phase followed by owner sessions and controlled excursions.
- The schedule was a proposal and included rest days. It does not establish completed sessions, measured improvement or a later outcome.
05 · Owner transfer and maintenance
The owner pathway focused on using consistent cues, appropriate reward and the same handling approach during everyday walks. The plan needed to work with Nellie's strength while developing calmer, clearer responses.
