01 · The presenting picture

The history described pulling, unreliable recall, limited engagement and reactions to traffic and bicycles. Ruby was otherwise reported to be friendly towards people and dogs.

At home, Ruby approached the trainers appropriately. Outdoors, pulling and attention to the environment made it harder to maintain useful communication.

02 · What the audit identified

When released, Ruby ran out of sight and became absorbed in digging. The trainer observed spinning and barking at cars; bicycle reactions remained reported history. Differences between handlers also made consistency and owner transfer relevant to the plan.

03 · The Canine UK strategy

  • Build engagement and clear lead communication.
  • Develop recall with suitable control and manageable distractions.
  • Practise basic cues and maintained positions.
  • Progress towards traffic work while improving owner consistency.

04 · Recommended pathway

  • Residential or day training and individual sessions were described as possible foundation pathways.
  • The available assessment does not establish a booking, completed programme or lasting improvement in recall or traffic responses.

05 · Owner transfer and maintenance

The proposed owner work was to repeat the same cues and handling approach, use appropriate motivation and make daily practice consistent. Useful mental activity formed part of the wider plan.
