01 · The presenting picture

The report described pulling, difficulty disengaging from scent, mouthing after excitement and interest in chasing animals or moving objects. Recall had not been established.

There was also a reported guarding incident around a bone, alongside destructive play and difficulty switching off when people were available.

02 · What the audit identified

The audit considered rest opportunities, suitable outlets and clearer communication together. Suggested breed influences were not confirmed ancestry, and reported rest patterns did not establish a measured sleep or anxiety diagnosis.

03 · The Canine UK strategy

  • Create a predictable balance of suitable activity and calm recovery.
  • Teach shared walking, settling, recall and release cues.
  • Manage valuable items and give play a clear structure.
  • Build responses in secure settings before adding freedom or distraction.

04 · Recommended pathway

  • Individual follow up and further professional recall training were proposed, with residential support also discussed.
  • The reviewed assessment does not confirm that a later programme began or that its goals were achieved.

05 · Owner transfer and maintenance

Owner work centred on consistent cues, rewarding calm behaviour and recording how Sam responded after walks, play and controlled exposure. Physical backup remained part of recall practice.

Privacy and professional context

Real work, shared responsibly.

Owner names, addresses, contact information and identifying household details have been removed. Health observations are not veterinary diagnoses and are included only where they materially affected the training decision.
