01 · The presenting picture

Willow and Molly were reported to pull, jump, bark and lunge, with unreliable recall and little calm between activities. Redirection towards each other added to the handling problem.

Willow was interested in balls and food, offering useful starting points for engagement. The requested basic cues were not demonstrated during the assessment.

02 · What the audit identified

Both dogs struggled to settle around the visitors. The figure of eight equipment prompted repeated scratching, and Willow cut her face in several places. Pulling, barking, lunging and redirection continued during the joint walk.

03 · The Canine UK strategy

  • Review handling and equipment as part of the whole picture.
  • Build clear cues and engagement in manageable settings.
  • Practise around controlled everyday distractions.
  • Include separate work to develop confidence away from Molly.

04 · Observed progress

  • The joint handover reported improved walking, commands and reduced reactivity, alongside owner practice with the dogs separately and together.
  • The source does not measure Willow's results independently. A small reaction was still recorded, and more separate confidence work remained necessary.

05 · Owner transfer and maintenance

The owners were asked to keep their communication consistent, continue short practice and use recall backup while confidence developed. Individual work remained part of maintaining the shared programme.
